Platform Tennis memberships are available for $250/year for a family and $135/year for an individual.

Guests are welcome.  An individual may play as a guest up to five times per season for free, after which a guest fee of $5 per visit will be charged.

There are two courts available for members to use. The facility has lights for evening play and there is a warming hut with a gas stove. Courts may be reserved on-line up to a week in advance and members can also reserve a court for regular weekly play during the platform tennis season, October through May.

The Club plans to host social events, round robins and competitive events during the season and compiles, posts and circulates a list of players to facilitate planning matches and finding subs.
Directions

The Platform Tennis Courts are located on the other side of the Ausable River from the main campus. Access by car from Route 73 is via Laight Hall Way (just south of the Mountaineer at Point Park). Cross the bridge and turn right onto Neville Way and continue less than 1/10th mile. The courts will be on the left. The road is very narrow. Proceed slowly and yield to cars that are exiting. Access by foot from the main campus is just across the Notman Bridge. Turn left and go down a few steps onto the Valley Trail which leads across a small bridge to Neville Way. Bear left. The courts will be on the right.

Rules and Regulations

  • The combination for the padlock is:  P L A Y
  • Members must sign in each time they play and must register their guests on the sign in sheet or the on-line sign in option which is much preferred.
    • We have set an ambitious goal of increasing that number to as close as we can get to 100%. It’s quick and easy once you know how. We invite you to call on one of us if you need help getting started. Another option is to ask one of your fellow players to show you how it’s done. If you are the person who reserved the court or the captain of a weekly group, please help us by checking to make sure everyone in your foursome has signed in.
  • Players are responsible for keeping the courts, warming hut and grounds clean and neat and are also responsible for the removal of all trash and recyclables.
  • Players are responsible for clearing the courts of snow before play. Instructions for snow removal and operation of lights and heaters are posted at the courts.
  • At the end of play, players must make sure that lights and heaters are turned off and locks are locked.
  • Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a responsible adult or sitter 16 or older.
  • Use athletic shoes with regular soles; no Vibram or Vibram-type soles.
  • Use brooms and PLASTIC shovels provided in the storage hut for clearing snow.
  • Do NOT use chemical de-icers, salt, or metal shovels.
  • Never leave court heaters or warming hut stove unattended.
  • At the end of play, make sure that the stove, court heaters and lights are turned off and both huts are locked.
  • Please leave the premises clean and neat and remove all trash, recyclables and personal belongings.

Heaters

  • Players are responsible for clearing snow from the court before play. Shovel and sweep as much snow as possible off the court before turning on heaters. DO NOT PILE SNOW ON TOP OF OR UNDERNEATH HEATERS. At least 12 inches of clearance is required below the heaters.
  • Recently the timers on the court and warming hut heaters were replaced with sturdier ones with push buttons instead of a dial and an OFF button. Turn the heaters on from inside the warming hut The heater fans will turn on for a few seconds (this is to clear the combustion chamber). Then they will stop. There will be a silent interval after which the heaters will start automatically.
  • The heaters are on a timer and will turn off automatically. Please make sure that heaters are turned off as soon as the court is dry enough to play to conserve fuel.

Lights

  • For night play, court light switches are located inside warming hut. Court lights should always be switched off at the end of play.
  • Interior and exterior lights on the warming and storage huts should also be turned off at the end of play.
  • There is also a switch that operates a motion-activated light outside of the hut near the stairs. This switch should always be left in the on position to light your way as you LOCK UP and leave the court.
